Wild zoology, a name I have just invented, is the study of animals in the wild. It will have started when it was in our interests to observe what things we might eat and what might eat us. Zoologists and wildlife biologists study animals and other wildlife and how they interact with their ecosystems. They study the physical characteristics of animals, animal behaviors, and the impacts humans have on wildlife and natural habitats. Zoology is important to science and to the world because it safe-guards wildlife and promotes conservation through programs like natural rehabilitation and breeding, raises awareness of endangered, at risk, and even flourishing animals, and helps create a precedence for future generations to protect what we have been entrusted with on planet Earth. After Man: A Zoology of the Future is a 1981 speculative evolution book written by Scottish geologist Dougal Dixon and illustrated by several illustrators including Diz Wallis, John Butler, Brian McIntyre, Philip Hood, Roy Woodard and Gary Marsh. The book also features a foreword by Desmond Morris. Some zoology graduates choose to undertake postgraduate study at Masters or PhD level in order to specialise in a particular area of interest within their discipline, for example wildlife conservation and biology, animal biology, ecology and environmental sustainability, and ecology and management of the natural environment.
